Emotes
Wave, taunt, dance, sit wherever you want. A wheel under your thumb, a catalog for the rest, and emotes for two.
The wheel#
Hold F3, point at a slot with the mouse, let go: done. The mouse wheel flips to the next wheel. A quick tap opens the catalog.
You get 3 wheels of 8 slots that you rename and fill however you like. The top slot is the same on all of them and can't be changed: Hands up. When the cops are after you, it's how you surrender, just like holding X (see Getting arrested).
The catalog#
/emotes or a quick tap on F3. Gestures, taunts, emotions, dances, sitting and posing, smokes and drinks, props, sport, party, duos, gang, photo poses... with a preview on your own character, favorites, and keyboard shortcuts you set yourself (Settings > Key Bindings > FiveM). Every emote also has its own command: /e <name>.
That's also where you pick your walk style and facial expression, which everyone sees.
Some emotes only move your upper body: you can walk, and even play them in a car.
Emotes for two#
A duo emote goes to the nearest player (within 3 m). They have 8 s to accept with Y; X declines. No more than one invite to the same player every 10 s. In the settings, you choose who can invite you: everyone, your gang or nobody.
Sit, lean, lie down#
Placement poses let you move your character before playing the emote, up to 2.5 m from where you stand: on a bench, against a wall, on the ground. Not through walls. When you stop, you go back to where you were.
What cancels an emote#
X, moving during an emote that roots you, aiming, shooting, getting hit, getting cuffed. And no ground poses or placement for 30 s after a shot or a hit, or while you have stars: no playing dead to hide.
With stars on you, holding X doesn't just stop the emote: you surrender. A quick tap is enough to stop.
In a cell, only simple emotes work: no props in hand, no duo emotes.
The Gang category only opens at .
