Fuel
Cars drink as they drive. About twenty minutes behind the wheel per tank, a few seconds at the pump without getting out, and a jerry can for when you're stranded.
At the pump#
Gas stations are on the map. Every car has a 100 L tank, and the gauge is on your speedometer.
- Pull up next to a pumpDriving, or on foot near the car: [E] Pump.
- Pick the amountDrag along the gauge, or go for a full tank. The price shows before you pump.
- Pump12 L per second: an empty tank takes 9 s. Stop whenever you want, you only pay for what went in.
- PayAt the end, bank first, then cash. Not enough? You get what you can pay for.
The jerry can#
Buy it at the pump, $120, and it goes in your inventory (2 on you at most). On foot, next to a vehicle: "Pour". 7 s later, 25 L are in the tank. It works on any car, not just yours.
In prison, your cans go to the locker with everything else, and you get them back on the way out.
Consumption#
Only the driver burns fuel, engine running, mostly when revving hard: flat out, a tank goes a lot faster. Idling, next to nothing. Passengers and the next driver find the same level.
It also depends on the ride: motorcycles and compacts sip, supercars, utility vans, trucks and industrial rigs guzzle.
The level is kept in the garage. A car stored on reserve comes out on reserve.
Running low#
Under 15 L, the gauge turns red and blinks, a message warns you, and the nearest station shows up on the edge of the minimap. Bone dry, the engine cuts out. It starts again as soon as you put fuel back in, at the pump or with a can.
What doesn't burn fuel#
Bicycles, boats, helicopters and planes: no fuel to manage. Electric cars neither (23 models, Voltic, Raiden, Neon, Cyclone…): never run dry.
Keep a jerry can in your inventory before a long desert run. At $120, it's a steal.
A car lifted off the street has in the tank: check the gauge before a chase. Motorcycles burn of a regular car, supercars , trucks .
