File 04 · Your Nemesis

The detective

Just for you

A cop has opened a file on you. He crashes your chases, remembers every run-in, climbs the ranks and learns your tricks. And he texts you.

Where he comes from#

He's born with your first big score: a real heist (bank, jewelry store, armored truck), or at least $15,000 of dirty cash from the same activity within 2 min. Soon after, first text: he's read the report.

From then on, when you're at ★★★ or more, he may join the chase. Once per chase, no more, and a single detective for a group of players running together. You'll spot him by his purple blip on the map, with his rank on it, and the tag above his head.

His file, his traits, his scars, your history together: it's all in the Detective app on your phone. Between chases, he texts you to rub it in.

How a run-in ends#

OutcomeWhat he takes from it
You shake him (no stars left)+1 point, and he learns a counter to the way you got away
You wound him (he backs off)+2 points, and a scar on his face
You get arrestedHe writes down the date. And he'll remind you
You dieSame, straight into his file
He pockets the envelopeHe drops it, but the price goes up

He climbs the ranks#

Enough points and he moves up a rank: better car, better aim, more health. There are 6 ranks, and from rank 3 on, he goes plainclothes, in an unmarked car.

He also learns how you get away. You shake him in a car? He comes back with a tuned engine, spike strips, a chopper, then starts ramming. With a gun? Heavy vest, helmet, carbine, a partner. On foot? A dog, a nose for you, backup.

Each one has 1 to 3 traits: marksman, driver, relentless (shows up from 2 stars), coward, brute... or corruptible.

Getting rid of him#

The envelopefrom $12,000

  • Only if he's corruptible, and within 150 m.
  • Cash, from the app, or E face to face, on foot.
  • He drops the chase: 2 stars off. The money's gone for good.

The bullet★★★

  • You kill him: he's dead for good.
  • ★★★ in one go on whoever drops him.
  • Someone else picks up the file. And they hold a grudge.

Killing him doesn't wipe the slate: his successor takes over everything he'd learned about you.

What the cops won't tell you#
