Pet dogs
Sandy ShoresA dog that follows you everywhere, rides in your car, sniffs out cops and fights in the arena. You have to feed him, walk him and train him. And keep an eye on him: in this town, even dogs get stolen.
Adopting#
The The Golden Fang kennel is in Sandy Shores, marked on the map. Every day a new litter of 5 pups waits in the cages, with at least 2 big dogs and 1 small one. Every player sees the same litter: once a pup is adopted, it's gone for everyone.
- Walk past the cages[E] in front of a pup: breed, stats, caps, first trait and price.
- Name him2 to 16 letters.
- PayBank first, then cash. You leave with 5 free bags of kibble.
- He follows youIf there's no room at your side (a dog is already out), he goes to your home's kennel or to boarding.
Every pup has one visible trait, and sometimes a second one, hidden until adoption. Two pups of the same breed don't have the same stats: the price follows.
Breeds#
Two classes. Heavyweights hit hard. Lightweights dodge and move fast. The numbers are the caps training can reach.
| Breed | Class | Base price | Strength | Stamina | Speed | Nose |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rottweiler | Heavyweight | $9,800 | 95 | 85 | 60 | 55 |
| German Shepherd | Heavyweight | $9,200 | 80 | 85 | 75 | 85 |
| Husky | Heavyweight | $7,200 | 70 | 95 | 80 | 60 |
| Retriever | Heavyweight | $5,600 | 65 | 75 | 70 | 90 |
| Chop | Heavyweight | $18,000 | 95 | 90 | 75 | 70 |
| Pug | Featherweight | $2,400 | 40 | 70 | 90 | 85 |
| Poodle | Featherweight | $3,400 | 38 | 65 | 95 | 75 |
| Westie | Featherweight | $2,900 | 48 | 70 | 85 | 95 |
Loyalty has no breed cap: it goes up to 100 for everyone. A pup starts with 35 – 45 loyalty. The Chop is rare: it only shows up in the litter now and then.
Traits#
| Trait | What it does |
|---|---|
| Loyal | Starts with +15 loyalty. Very hard to steal, and escapes from his thief more often. |
| Stealthy | Never barks: not at a thief, not when he smells cops. |
| Sentinel | Warns you when a stranger comes near him or your kennel. |
| Stubborn | All his caps +8, but he learns slower. |
| Glutton | Eats 1.5 times as much, but gains strength faster in training. |
| Feisty | Hits harder when he's almost KO, in the arena. |
| Lucky | More critical hits in the arena. |
| Grumpy | Sometimes flies into a rage in a fight, without an order. |
| Coward | Sometimes backs off in a fight, and lands fewer hits. |
The My dog app#
Everything goes through the My dog app on your phone: call or dismiss your dog, feed him, play, put him on guard, fit the GPS collar, check his stats, your kennels, boarding, and set a route to the breeder, the training ground, the arena or the vet. Without a phone, /chien calls or dismisses him (you can bind a key in the game settings).
One dog out at a time. He follows you on foot, sits when you stop, and waits outside interiors. In a car, [G] opens a passenger door for him: he runs over and hops in. When you get out, he jumps out behind you. No free seat, or on two wheels? He waits where he is. Drive too far without him: he goes home.
Your dog never attacks a player.
Feeding and walking#
Your dog has two gauges: hunger and mood. They only move while he's called. Full, he lasts about 4.8 h before his belly is empty. Mood drops without walks: walk with him, on foot, and it comes back up.
| Item (convenience store) | Price | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Dog kibble | $40 | +35 hunger |
| Premium dog food | $120 | +70 hunger, +10 mood |
| Dog treats | $25 | +12 mood |
| Tennis ball | $60 | +25 mood, never wears out, one game every 10 min |
| GPS collar | $800 | Tracked on the map if he's stolen |
It's all in the Pet aisle of the convenience stores. Give it from the app or your inventory, a few meters from him. Meals, games of fetch and training also raise his loyalty.
Hunger and mood at zero for 15 min: he runs away. You pick him up at the breeder's pound for $1,500.
Where to keep him#
| Spot | How | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Out | With you, one at a time | Free |
| Kennel | An upgrade for your home, 1 to 3 spots | Paid once |
| Boarding | At the breeder, 3 dogs at most | $250 per started day, paid on pickup |
| Pound | After running away | $1,500 |
Kennel swaps happen at home, inside the property with the kennel: the dog you pick comes out, the one that was out takes his place. Boarding never charges more than 14 days, so $3,500 at most. A boarding dog can't be stolen. Sell the property and the kennel gets too small? The extra dogs go to boarding.
Training#
The training ground is right next to the breeder. [E] on site to pick an exercise. Each one raises a stat, up to the breed's cap.
| Exercise | Stat | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Tug of war | Strength | [E] when the cursor is in the zone, 5 times |
| Obedience | Loyalty | A string of 6 commands, [E] at the right time |
| Agility course | Speed | Run with him between the cones, in 40 s |
| Weighted sprint | Stamina | Two big laps of the ground, in 70 s |
| Search | Nose | A toy under one of six buckets: follow your dog and lift the right one |
3 sessions per dog per day. A good session is worth 1 to 5 points, less near the cap. A treat given before the session makes it more effective. A dog that's too hungry refuses to work, and every session makes him hungrier. A failed session doesn't count toward the 3 of the day, but teaches him nothing.
KO and the vet#
Your dog never dies. Knocked out in the street, he goes home to rest for 10 min and loses some mood. Beaten in the arena, he's injured for 45 min.
The vet clinic fixes him up right away, paid from bank then cash:
- arena injury: $1,200;
- ending the rest after a KO: $400.
The breeder, the training ground, the arena and the vet are safe zones: no shooting.
Nose and guard#
Once called, your dog sniffs out cops around him: he growls and tells you how many meters away they are. The better his nose, the farther he smells them.
On guard (My dog app), he stays sitting where he is while you walk away. Handy to watch a car. Risky too: a dog left alone can be stolen.
Theft and ransom#
A dog left alone outside too long, with you more than 15 m away, can be stolen. So can a dog in a kennel, if his owner is in town but not at home. In boarding, never.
In the street5 s and up
- Walk up to a lone dog, [E] to lure him with a treat (used up on every try).
- Stay next to him while you hold him: the more loyal he is, the longer it takes.
- He can refuse to follow you. You then wait 5 min before trying that dog again.
At a kennel25 s
- At the door of a home with an occupied kennel, [E] to force it (a treat here too).
- Only one dog can follow you, if he wants to.
- The kennel is then watched for 15 min.
You need room for one more dog. Dogs bark and warn their owner, with a marker on his map. Except the Stealthy one. A passerby who sees you calls the cops: one star.
A stolen dog isn't yours right away. For 3 days, he can escape and go back to his old owner. Feed him, play with him, train him: every bit of care bonds him to you and shortens that delay. Once it's over, he's yours for good.
- The thief sets a ransomIn the My dog app, from $500 to $100,000. The owner gets an anonymous message.
- The owner paysFrom the app, bank then cash. The thief gets the cash, even offline.
- The dog comes homeTo the kennel, at his side, or to boarding at the breeder, on the house.
The GPS collar goes on from the app or your inventory, next to your dog. If he's stolen, you see him on the map and can set a route. The thief can't rip it off for 10 min.
A pup's second trait stays hidden until adoption: there is one . A Stubborn dog hides it well: as a second trait, .
Mood never climbs more than : a starving dog is never happy. In training, a good mood . Loyalty only rises (meal, ball).
A Loyal dog at 100 loyalty only follows a stranger . At a kennel, the thief leaves , and a stolen dog kept in a kennel has than one taken out.
